This soil has a <br />thicker mollic epipedon than Buckskin and the argillic horizon occurs at a shallower depth than Routt <br />The recommended topsoil salvage depth is based solely on the thickness of the surface mollic epipedon <br />and transitional horizons since subsurface clay levels are unsuitable. Topsoil salvage should be <br />terminated at the top of the argillic horizon. The mean in situ suitable topsoil depth for 6 profiles is 28 <br />inches (Appendix 9-61. <br />The 50C and 50D map units consist of 85 percent Cochetopa with 8 percent Routt and 7 percent <br />Buckskin inclusions (Appendix 9-2, Table 1). A 2.0-foot mean salvage depth was used for Map Units <br />50C and 50D to calculate recoverable topsoil volumes listed in Table 21-1 and Exhibit 9-1. This topsoil <br />salvage depth figure accounts for inclusions and topsoil loss during salvage due to brush clearing. <br />V50D-Cochetopa Variant (moderately deep) Loam. This map unit is found on moderately steep convex- <br />shaped upper sideslopes of ridges. The soil profile is moderately deep and well developed with a thick, <br />dark colored surface horizon and subsoil clay accumulation. The soil has a higher subsoil clay content <br />than Foidel. Cochetopa soils have a deep profile. <br />The recommended topsoil salvage depth is based exclusively on the thickness of the surface mollic <br />epipedon and transitional horizons since subsurface clay levels are unsuitable. Topsoil salvage should <br />be terminated at the top of the argillic horizon. The mean in situ suitable topsoil depth for 2 profiles is <br />19 inches (Appendix 9-6). <br />The V50D map unit consists of 85 percent Cochetopa variant with 8 percent Cochetopa and 7 percent <br />Foidel inclusions (Appendix 9-2, Table 11. A 1.5-toot mean salvage depth was used for this map unit <br />to calculate recoverable topsoil volumes listed in Table 21-1 and Exhibit 9-1 . This topsoil salvage depth <br />figure accounts for inclusions and topsoil loss during salvage due to brush clearing. <br />53C, 53D, 53E, 53F-Winevada Loam. Winevada loam is located on strongly sloping to very steep <br />concave-shaped, bedrock controlled sideslopes and swales. The soil profile has a thick, dark colored <br />surface horizon which directly overlies sandstone bedrock at 20 to 40 inches. Adjacent soils are <br />shallower ISplitrol, deeper (Coutis), have more profile development with subsoil clay accumulation <br />IFoidell, or have a light colored surface horizon IStarman and Roxal variantl. <br />18 'Revised 4/24/91 <br />
