Additional information is provided for each major soil component of the map units in
Appendix 9-2, Table 2, Soil Interpretations. Information provided in this table includes: •
• Map unit components listed alphabetically
• Map unit symbol including slope designation
• Texture of particle-size control section
• Depth of profile
• Effective rooting depth )inches)
• Internal drainage
• Permeability
• Available water holding capacity
• Rate of surface runoff
• Typical reaction class )entire profile) or (surface/subsoil)
• Wind erodibility group nurtiber (surface layer)
• Wind and water erosion potential 11 and k factors for surface horizon)
• Hydrologic group status
Soil Series Descriptions. The soil series found on the study area and their taxonomic
classifications are provided in Table 9-4, (Soil Series Classification, Map Unit, Sample Numbers,
and NRCS Soil Series Information for Soils on the Seneca II-W/II-W South Extension Area). The
table also lists the applicable map unit number, sample numbers, and related information •
concerning NRCS official soil series descriptions. The soil series mapped on the study area,
with exception to Chaperton and Routt, are all established soil series IEI.
Copies of the NRCS official soil t:eries descriptions, accompanying soil interpretation records,
and profile descriptions of all 131 auger hole soil observation sites, are on file.
Soil series descriptions are provided in Appendix 9-3 (Soil Profile Descriptions for all Sampled
Pedonsl and identify the morphology of representative soil profiles on the study area. Series
descriptions were obtained Trom sampled soil pedons and have been correlated with their
analytical results as well as with NRCS soil series criteria to the extent applicable. Most soil
map units within the disturbance area have a soil landscape photograph and these photographs
are also on file.
•
20 Revised 9/96
