The second alluvial soil in the Hubberson Gulch irrigated area is Hunchback clay loam (sample <br />• site HG2, map unit 1561. Hunchback is located in several poorly drained areas within the <br />irrigated hayland along Hubberson Gulch. Hunchback comprises approximately 14 percent of <br />the irrigated area. During 1997 these areas were too wet for hay harvest. At the time of <br />sampling 110-10-971, free water was observed at a depth of approximately 12 inches. <br />Hunchback has an approximate 16 to 25 inch surface layer with clay loam or clay texture. The <br />profile of HG2 was gleyed below 4 inches and has clay loam, silty clay, or clay textures to a <br />depth of approximately 110 inches. The profile was also generally reduced below 4 inches due <br />to its poorly drained nature. Hunchback is also non-saline and non-sodic. It is classified as a <br />"fine smectitic, Cumulic Cryaquoll" and is considered a hydric soil ISCS 19931. <br />The third alluvial soil in the Hubberson Gulch irrigated area is Silas clay loam (sample site HG4, <br />map unit 27A}, and it comprises approximately 9.4 percent of the irrigated area. Il is located <br />upstream of the Smith ranch house in the field to the east-southeast. Silas is described in <br />Appendix 9-3. The HG4 profile was not reduced, and it was not gleyed until a depth of <br />approximately 98 inches. Free water was also observed at approximately 98 inches. <br />Two other short reaches of stream drainages exist within the Seneca soil survey study area and <br />they also contain unconsolidated streamlain deposits. The first is part of upper Hubberson <br />Gulch in the southwest corner of the study area (Section 341. There is no agricultural use <br />• (irrigation or pastureland) of this reach of Hubberson Gulch. The second is a tributary drainage <br />to Sage Creek that occurs in Section 14 in the northeast corner of the study area. Neither of <br />these drainages will be disturbed. <br />Map Unit Descriptions and Soil Interpretations. Map units are depicted by map symbol, name, <br />and slope percentage in Table 9-3, Guide to and Areal Extent of Soil Map Units Identified for <br />the Seneca II-W Soil Survey, October 1990. The areal extent of each map unit in acres is also <br />provided in Table 9-3. Table 9-3A presents the areal extent of each map unit for Seneca II-W <br />South Extension area. Detailed descriptions of each map unit are provided in Appendix 9-2, <br />Table 1, Soil Map Unit Characteristics. Information for Hubberson Gulch map units 52A and <br />156 are presented addendums at the end of each table.
