1
6.3 Reclamation Activity
6.3.1 Regrading
Several areas were regraded in 2011 per the BLM's request to reduce NSI's surface
disturbance.
• The 5H-1V, 5H, and 6H wells were plugged and abandoned. The 5H-1V pad
was recontoured and reclaimed. The 5H and 6H pads were utilized for the
DVPW drilling operations and will be interim reclaimed at a later date.
• The BG -5, BG -6, DS -4, DS -5 and WSW -2 pads were decreased in size by
recontouring the edges. They were also fenced and reseeded per BLM
guidelines.
• The access road to the DS -2 and BG -1 wells was recontoured.
• The 1A -5HR and 93 -2M pads were fully recontoured.
6.3.2 Seeding
Several pads were seeded in the spring of 2011.
• The BG -5, BG -6, DS -4, DS -5, WSW -2, 3A -5V, 93 -2M, 1A -5HR, 4A -1V, 3A -5V
were all seeded as part of full or interim reclamation.
• Seeding was also performed around the edges of the 10H and 11H pads per
BLM.
• The top four inches of soil on the 3A -5V pad was turned over and reseeded.
6.3.3 Reclamation Fencing
Repair and maintenance was performed on some existing fences. The wells mentioned
above had fencing installed. Fencing is utilized to keep livestock and wildlife out of the
reclamation areas.
6.3.4 Precipitation
Precipitation gauges are located near the plugged and abandoned well 90 -5 (tipping
gauge) and near monitoring well EX -2 (V- gauge). Based on perennial vegetation, which is
an indicator of Tong -term precipitation, the "normal" precipitation for the NSI site is 12 -14
inches for the calendar year. The distribution of precipitation is important for reclamation.
Table 8 provides a composite of precipitation from the two gauges at NSI mine site:
Daub & Associates, Inc. 20 NSI Annual Report 2010
