Lanham, Linda -FS
Front
Sent:
To:
Subject:
Revenue- Virginus silver
mine to reopen in 2013
By Jessi Marlatt
jess i (iitu Laaync ws. com
The town of Ouray will once again be bustling with miners
working to extract precious metals from the earth when
the Rcvcnue- Virginius Mine, up Camp Bird Road, reopens
next year. The high - producing Virginius vein will be the
original focus of operations.
The mine is being leased with a purchase option by Star
Mining operations, whose parent company is Silver Star
Resources.
Silver Star Resources is a private mining company based
in Denver. According to its website, the primary goals arc to
discover, develop and produce metals from economically
viable deposits in an environmentally conscious manner.
Originally an oil and gas company, Silver Star expanded
operations to include mining in 2008.
According to Rory Williams, project manager, the company
plans to hire 100 percent locals and anticipates 40 to 50
employees when the mine is in full operation. 'then are
plenty of able bodied people in the area, and we will be providing
year round employment which will help the community,"
Williams said.
"I think it is exciting to see our economy diversify, but we
have to make sure that everyone else's livelihood can still
thrive in the process," Ouray County Commissioner Lynn
Padgett said in a phone interview.
Currently the company is permitted to explore, prospect
and repair structural damage to the
mine which was closed in 1912 due to
a fire.
Silver Star is an equal opportunity
employer. "Not a lot of women apply
for mining jobs, but companies prefer
hiring them sometimes because they
tend to be more careful when driving
the machinery," said Williams.
All mining buildings will be underground
as well as a mill. This will
decrease the aesthetic and environmental
impacts as well as reduce noise
in the valley. "Our main goal is the
preserve the natural beauty of the area
Wong, Corey -FS
Thursday, January 19, 2012 12:56 PM
Condos, Tom -FS; Loupe, Lee Ann -FS; Lanham, Linda -FS
Revenue - Virginus silver mine to reopen in 2013
R. 1.0 it 4 3
ED
