INTRODUCTION
This cultural resource inventory report is submitted in compliance with the stipulations
of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Environmental Policy
Act of 1969, and Executive Order 11593 of 1971. It was prepared under PSAP No.
78 -CO -124 and Colorado State Permit No. 79 -47 by Western Cultural Resource Manage-
ment, Inc. at the request of Peabody Coal Company to discover and access prehistoric
and historic cultural resources on properties intended for impact by haul road construc-
tion.
Since this report is an addendum to a larger survey conducted for Peabody Coal Company
(Wheeler 1979), we will not repeat all the details of archaeological background, literature
search, and similar sections of environmental setting. If it is necessary to review this
information, please consult the larger report. Project organization and objectives are
identical with those of the Seneca II -W original report.
On October I, 1979, Western Cultural Resource Management, Inc. performed a cultural
resource inventory on the proposed haul road, located in Township 6N, Range 88W, Sec-
tions 13, 14, 23, and 24; and Range 87W, Sections 17, 18, and 19 (see Figure 5A -1). A 600
foot right -of -way clearance was requested. The route was not staked or flagged.
5A -2 Revised October 15, 1984
