2.05.6(41 Protection of Public Parks and Historic Places
(a1 There are no public parks or historic places
listed on the National Register of Historic Places within the
mine permit area.
(b) During the first week of May 1991 and in June
1991, the Grand River Institute performed a Class III cultural
resource inventory, of 300 acres and 65 acres respectively,
within the proposed impact acre of the proposed Hamilton Mine.
Five prehistoric archaeological sites, three historic
EuroAmerican sites and five isolated finds were identified and
recorded. Two of the sites, 5MN3761 and 5MN3760, were identified
by the Grand River Institute as eligible and potentially eligible
for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
Site 5NM3760 is in the area where mining is to initial-
ly commence. This site was tested during June 1991 and was
determined to be eligible. A Data Recovery Plan for the site was
submitted to the Colorado Historical Society. The site will be
investigated as soon as possible. Mining will be allowed to
disturb the site after it is investigated and cleared by the
SHPO. Mining will commence in Mining Area No. 1 if the site is
cleared by the SHPO by the time mining is to begin. If the site
is not cleared in time, then mining will commence in Mining Area
No. 2 and the boundaries of Site 5MN3760 will be marked in the
• field by fence posts or by some other means.
Site 5MN3761 is in the area where mining is to take
place. This site can be avoided if necessary. This site will be
tested during 1991 or 1992 to determine if it is eligible. If
the test determines that the site is eligible it will be avoided.
The boundaries of this site will be marked in the field by fence
posts or by some other means prior to the commencement of any
mining activities on the site
(5) There is no indication that the permit area has ever
been mined by underground or surface mining techniques.
