Road Surface
Slope %
Cross Drain
Spacing (ft.)
2
200
2 -4
100
4 -5
75
>5
50
to avoid encroachment or interception of drainage channels (any defined channel having
a bottom width of 2 feet wide or greater), where possible.
o On all road crossings of defined drainage channels, any needed cut and fills or other
channel modification will be at the minimum necessary to provide safe access across the
channel. All cut and fills below the average high water line along stream channels require
notification to the Army Corps of Engineers. All channel modifications will be fully
reclaimed and stabilized during final reclamation.
o All equipment and vehicles will be confined to existing access roads.
o Any cleared trees will be stockpiled for use during reclamation.
o Cross drains (dips, waterbars, etc) will be installed on newly constructed access roads.
Cross drain design and spacing will be in accordance with the following guidelines.
a. Cross drains should be located above breaks in vertical profile from shallow to
steep grades to prevent the shallow grade surface drainage from gaining velocity and
erosive power on the steep grade.
b. Whenever possible cross drains should be located to release water on convex
slopes or other stable areas that will disperse water rather than channeling it.
c. Cross drains should be constructed with an outslope grade of 3 to 5 percent or
equal to the existing out -slope grade.
o BLM concurs with the bonding recommendations of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety (CDRMS). Operations may begin when the bond is
filed with CDRMS and a copy of the bond is submitted to this Office.
Your Mining Notice is complete, the operation will not cause unnecessary or undue degradation
to the public lands and it contains all the information required by BLM surface management
regulations at 43 CFR 3809.301. Your notice remains in effect for 2 years from the date of this
letter, unless extended under 43 CFR 3809.333 or unless you notify BLM beforehand that
operations have ceased and reclamation is complete. BLM will conduct an inspection to verify
whether reclamation has been completed before recommending bond release to the Colorado
Division Reclamation Mining and Safety (CDRMS). On or before the expiration date, the Field
Manager must be given written notice if you intend to continue operations under the terms of the
existing Notice for an additional two (2) years.
