A photographic record of embankment and disposal area development
will be started before deposition, and will be continued at regular
intervals during the, life of the facility.
2.0 Monitoring Plan
The monitoring plan may be divided into six basic areas; initial
— tailings construction monitoring, monitoring of the disposal area and
embankment, monitoring of elements which affect the mass and water balance
of the disposal area, monitoring of the hydrologic
system the
Project, monitoring of pit inflows and monitoring inresponseto aa spill .
s
2.1 Initial Construction Monitoring
After construction of the Phase I embankment, a series of
monitoring instruments will be installed in the embankment crest.
- These instruments are designed to provide data on the performance
of the embankment after the embankment is constructed. The
monitoring system consists of surface settlemen
t sensors and
piezometers placed at selected locations. The piezometers would be
■ located so as to detect the development of phreatic head within the
drainage blanket and embankment fill . The settlement sensors will
provide data on the vertical surface displacements of the embankment
and give some indication of its 'en•masse, consolidation
characteristics.
Post installation baseline data from the instruments will be
1 obtained prior to operation of the facilities. After
commencement
of operation, readings of all instruments will be taken once each
month until trends are established. At that point BMR will submit
a technical revision to the MLRD showing the established trends and
requesting a reduction in the frequency of readings. All results
will be recorded and plotted. Additional readings will be taken
whenever the rate or method of operation is modified.
0
71 01 322
