ARCADIS
aste Rock
Both piezometers were installed in the Indian Creek Waste Rock Dump. The dump
contains waste rock derived from surface mining operations at the site during active
open -pit operations between 1979 and 1981. The primary geologic rock units that
comprise the overburden are (Nash, 1941):
• Proterozoic -age Granite Pegmatite — is a weakly foliated quartz- muscovite-
orthoclase pegmatite that crops out along the ridge top near the southern end of
the existing pit. Boulders of granite pegmatite were observed throughout the
surface of the waste rock dump. It was suspected that this material would
comprise the lower -most section of the waste rock dump as it was emplaced to
act as a drain underlying other waste rock materials.
• Mississippian Leadville Dolomite — is a dark - colored dolostone and limestone.
Near the mine site, the Leadville Dolomite consists of massive - bedded micritic
dolostone.
• Pennsylvanian Belden Formation — is a lithologically variable shale and
sandstone. Sandstones are primarily arkosic (sandstones composed of
feldspars, quartz, micas). Shale interbeds vary in color from medium grey to
green -brown and dark -red. This unit is the primary rock unit of the overburden at
the Pitch mine, and likely the primary constituent of waste rock derived during
mining operations.
Drilling and Well Completion — August 23 — August 31 2011
ARCADIS contracted WDC Exploration and Wells of Peralta, New Mexico (Driller) to
perform well abandonment, borehole drilling, and piezometer installation. ARCADIS
and the Driller mobilized to the Pitch site on August 22 2011 and drilling commenced
on August 24 2011. Well logs are located in Appendix B.
Both replacement piezometers (IC- 10300R and IC- 10370R) were designed in
accordance with Colorado Office of the State Engineer Rules for water well
construction rule 14 "Minimum Construction Standards for Monitoring and Observation
Wells /Holes and Test Holes ". The existing piezometers IC -10300 and IC10370 were
abandoned in accordance with Colorado Office of the State Engineer Rules for water
well construction rule 16 "Standards for Plugging and Sealing Wells and Boreholes ".
Well construction is presented in Table C.
Pitch Reclamation Project -
Piezometer Replacement
Field Activities Report
g:\apmject\bamck\ao000102.0001 pitch reclamation piojechao102, bamck- pdch\piezo replacement repoNng\ draft\ far _pilch_piezo_replacement_pdd.doc 5
