Results are detailed in Table A.
Table A - baseline radiation survey results.
The Ludlum model 44 -40 is considered a "frisker" or a meter used to determine if
radioactive particles have accumulated on surfaces during interaction with site
materials. A background measurement was taken at the Pitch Mine workshop, located
onsite. Results indicate that the site team did not accumulate radiation during the visit,
and that frisker levels were below background.
The Ludlum model 19 microR meter is a gamma ray meter that measures
radioactivity. Results from this survey indicate that waste rock materials at locations
shown in Table A are at or near site background or 90 microRems per hour (pr /hr).
The only exception was at the IC -10370 drilling location. Though this location was
above the background level, the exposure rate was 165 pr /hr or an activity of 66
picoCuries per gram (pCi /g) (Schiager, 1974). The OSHA whole body 1 hour dose is
430 pr /hr. Environments with gamma radiation higher than 25% of 430 pr /hr (108.5
pr /hr) are considered a `radiation area" under the US Code of Federal Regulations
(CFR) 1910.1096 part b.
Pitch Reclamation Project -
Piezometer Replacement
Field Activities Report
g:laprojed\banick 0000102.0001 pitch reclamation projec0ao102, hanick- pdch\piezo replacement reporting \ draft Var _pdch_piezo_replacement_pdd.doc 3
