VI. Revegetation
'Compatible with the post- mining latid use `and will meet all the
requirement's of Rule 4.44.2(2):
.. # s„ .
The`Division ..has previously as permanent 21 check dams in the
West Ridge and `Center Ridge areas Tl e `check dams in the West
- ' :drainage "are coinmorilyreferred to as `the "String of Pearls ". Both
, - the'West Ridge and _Center Ridge watercourse are ephemeral. In
accordance -with Rules 4.05:3 and 4:05 :4; the spillways are'designed to
' pass the peak flow froti'a24= r. storm event of either 10 -yr.
recurrence or 25 -yr. recurrence, depending on whether thedrainage area is
less than or more than one square mile.
The Division has "previously approved the use of introduced species in the
reclaination'seed -mix: , The applicant lias'submitted information which
shows that the =introduced `species are desirable' and necessary to achieve
the approved post- mining land use, and are not poisonous or noxious
(Rule 4.15.2):
The Division has 'previously approved'the'use'of a cover crop as a means
to meet' soil stabilization requirements. Winter wheat was' used as a cover
crop'oh'portions: f the West Ridge area fRule 4.15.4).
`Methods" to measure herbaceous cover and production; species diversity,
and woody plant density are discussed in =Section 4.4 the PAP. These
techniques include reference area comparisons. The Division previously
approved these' techniques [Rule`4.15.7(1)].
r;
On topsoil replaced areas, comparison between disturbed areas and
reference areas in terms of covet and productivity will be used to
demoiisttrate that the success criteria of Rule 4.15.8 have 'been met.
An acceptable species diversityrevegetation standard for topsoil
redistribution areas has been approved by the Division. The approved
standard states that herbaceous species diversity will require the presence
of at'least five species ;with relative importance of each species
equal toYor greater than three percent; but less than 40 percent. The
m
cobined relativeimportarice of five herbaceous species will not exceed
75 percent. If thereare'six or rriore'perenriial herbaceous species that
satisfy the relative importance requirements; then the inaximum
combined relative importance standard Will be'waived. A numerical
standard for cool and warm season/forb species was not required, since a
diverse permanent reclamation seed ri ixture of pererinial,13redominately
native, plants containing cool and warm season grass species and forbs
and woody species, was planted.
