Most of the project area is used for grazing sheep and cattle, upper <br />elevations are primarily used as wildlife habitat. Cattle and sheep grazing are seasonal. <br />Range improvements such as stock ponds and windmills are found throughout the project <br />area. <br />Moffatt County roads which traverse the lease area are typically gravel- covered roads or <br />unimproved farm access roads. Other roads. include Colorado State Highway 789 and 13. <br />Ranch -based residential features such as fences, ditches, reservoirs, water wells, and <br />stock tanks are widely scattered. There are no occupied residences on the proposed lease <br />area. Two occupied residences are located within two miles of the proposed lease <br />perimeter. <br />An active surface coal mine (ColoWyo Coal Company) is located 3 -5 miles east of the <br />proposed lease area. There are no pending or approved oil and gas leases in the proposed <br />lease area. Several small oil fields, which are currently active or have been active during <br />the past twenty years, are located to the southwest of the proposed lease area. In <br />addition, the partially reclaimed "Jim Dunn" surface mine is located near the Rio Blanco <br />- Moffat county line southwest of the proposed lease area. <br />45 <br />
