<br />coalmine will eventually be transferred to the proposed coalmine. A declining
<br />employment trend is occurring in small communities as some of the older coal deposits
<br />become depleted.
<br />Affordable housing is available for all income ranges in Craig and Meeker. Additional
<br />housing may be available in the communities of Maybell, Axial, and Hamilton. The
<br />housing market is on a steady, healthy growth cycle. The rental market has been very
<br />tight in the last six years (2000 -06) and has seen a 95 to 99 percent occupancy rate. Rents
<br />run as high as $400 a month for a three bedroom apartment and to $850 for a three
<br />bedroom home (Moffat County Planning Department). Table 10 shows a comparison of
<br />2000 house prices and taxes in Craig, Meeker and Steamboat Springs.
