1
1
1
7
1 for you, sir. It was back in the 1980s, though. It's
2 been a number of years.
3 MR. STARNER: And you made the statement
4 that the bond was inadequate to do all reclamation. My
5 question would be in what form was the bond?
6 MR. BERRY: Do you recall the
7 instrument?
8 MR. STARNER: Would you -- we'll let the
9 Corley people address that. Would you please give your
10 name and --
11 MR. CORLEY: I'm W.D. Corley, Jr., of
12 Colorado Springs, Colorado, and this is my daughter
13 Ann Corley.
14 GEC stopped mining in 1984 and went
15 bankrupt. The bond was in a letter of credit form in
16 an Oklahoma City bank, and it went bankrupt, and so it
17 was a jinxed affair from the word go.
18 The bond was forfeited in 1987, three
19 years after GEC left and ceased mining, and reclamation
20 was accomplished in 1994, 10 years after GEC ceased
21 mining.
22 In that at least seven -year span after
23 that bond was forfeited and the state did have some
24 bond moneys in the form.of cash, all of that interest
25 went into the general fund and was lost to reclamation.
