ROLANDS: The purpose of the <br />4 oversight was to take a look at all the bond forfeiture <br />5 sites in Colorado and determine the extent of off -site <br />6 impacts from those sites. <br />7 Frankly, when we first drove up on GEC <br />8 and saw all the gullies, I thought there would be <br />9 rather extensive off -site impacts._ Obviously, the <br />10 on -site impacts are extensive with the amount of <br />11 erosion that's occurred. <br />12 Down site, we walked downstream -- I'm <br />13 assuming that's the gully with the pictures there -- <br />14 the gully with the concrete structures. We walked <br />15 downstream approximately, oh, I would say a half mile <br />16 from that location, and we were rather surprised at the <br />17 lack of off -site impact. <br />18 The deposition -- there's certainly -- <br />19 obviously there's been deposition off of the permitted <br />20 area and off of the disturbed area, but we didn't <br />21 observe any gross killing of trees and vegetation. We <br />22 saw areas where cattails were coming up, some wetlands <br />23 had developed probably from the material deposited from <br />24 those gullies. <br />25 So off site -- we decided that there <br />
