The excavated material was loaded into 40 -ton articulating haul
trucks and hauled to fill areas within the PSES. Structural fill was placed in 18" to 24" lifts using
two CAT D -6 LGP dozers. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a tandem axle water truck
(when necessary) and compacted using a 10 -ton vibratory smooth drum compactor, passing over
the entire fill surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is applicable). The area was
set to finish grades that were surveyed prior to,the project start. Ambient and fill temperatures
were monitored during fill placement.
B) Sediment Basin/Drainage
1) 36" Culvert Installation
Installation of the 36" culvert along the south side of the project continued. Approximately
210' of trench was excavated using a CAT 330 excavator. Pipe Bedding Material (PBM) was
placed below, around and above the 36" culvert using a CAT 330 excavator until one foot of
cover was achieved. The PBM was moisture conditioned (when necessary) and compacted in
8" lifts using a vibratory plate compactor and laborers. Geofabic and riprap were placed at the
culvert inlet. Nuclear density testing was performed, producing results within project
specifications.
PSES Weekly Report WE 11.05.2011
