November 15, 2011 C- 1981 - 010 /Trapper Mine RDZ
Repair of erosion was observed in the channel below the East Pyeatt ponds and in the channel downstream of
culvert AE10. The riprap in the channels was holding up well. Between the Oak Gulch ponds, the bank of the
drainage is eroding and should be repaired.
Several culverts were inspected and maintenance needs were observed:
• The No Name culvert (under B/C Road) requires cleaning on downstream side.
• Culvert A3 requires sediment removal.
The culvert just east of A3 requires a large amount of sediment removal as it is nearly clogged.
Culvert next to shop (along D Pit Road) requires cleaning.
GENERAL MINE PLAN COMPLANCE:
The mine was found to be in general compliance with the permit.
The following mining activities were observed (blasting described in Explosives section):
• The F Pit is being filled by Komatsu trucks. The pit floor has been ripped.
• In the Z Dip area, the Le Tourneau loader was loading trucks with spoil, and the Queen Ann dragline was
casting spoil.
• In the K Strike area, trucks were being loaded with coal by an excavator; the Molly Brown dragline was
idle.
At the K Ridge, soil was being dumped.
This complete coal inspection was conducted on November 15 - 17, 2011 by Rob Zuber, Jared Ebert, and Zach
Trujillo of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division). The purpose of the inspection
was to evaluate the on- the- ground condition with respect to Trapper Mine's mining and environmental protection
activities. Graham Roberts, Forrest Luke, and Billy Nicholson of TMI accompanied the inspection in the field.
The weather was cool and clear. The ground was partially snow covered on all three days. Mud was present in
the afternoons due to relatively wane temperatures.
ROADS — Rule 4.03
Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3)
Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4)
Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6)
Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
Many roads were observed during the inspection, including Life -of -Mine, North AE, K1, HG, North A,
Z3, Middle Z, Middle A, West Ash, Middle Ash, B/C Haul Road, and several pond access roads.
