November 17, 2011 C -1981- 019 /Colowyo Coal Mine JHB
to root contact. CCC has weed barrier staked along the rows with adequately sized holes in the barrier for the
seedlings to emerge through. The final planting of the seedlings finished on 11/16. Species noted in the study
area were Aspen, Chokecherry and serviceberry. Serviceberry and True Mountain Mahogany were planted in the
shallower soil study area. CCC will need to follow up on some of the transplants in the shallow soil plot as some
of the root balls remain exposed above ground. Additional soil placed at the crown of the root balls should help
minimize desiccation of the seedlings. The final seeding of the north east portion of the X -pod needs to be
completed in the 2011 area before the end of the year. CCC appears to be on track to meeting this requirement.
TOPSOIL — Rule 4.06
Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3; Redistribution 4.06.4:
The X -Pod topsoil placement thickness was not verified since the replaced topsoil in this area was frozen. CCC
personnel explained that a small portion at X -Pod immediately west of the shrub study plot needs topsoil lay down
and seeding. This was a travel corridor CCC needed to utilize for the Study plot construction. Topsoil was
windrowed to the west of the corridor, and will be pushed back on this corridor once study plot construction is
completed.
Topsoil stockpiles used for topsoil replacement in 2011 have been sloped to a stable configuration.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED None
OTHER (SPECIFY)
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 3
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 5 of 10
