The excavated material was loaded into 40 -ton articulating haul
trucks and hauled to fill areas within the PSES. Structural fill was placed in 18" to 24" lifts using
two CAT D -6 LGP dozers. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a tandem axle water truck
(when necessary) and compacted using a 10 -ton vibratory smooth drum compactor, passing over
the entire fill surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is applicable). The area was
set to finish grades that were surveyed prior to the project start. Ambient and fill temperatures
were monitored during fill placement.
B) Drainage
1) 36" Culvert Installation
Installation of the 36" culvert along the south side of the project began. Approximately 300' of
trench was excavated using a CAT 330 excavator. Pipe Bedding Material (PBM) was placed in
the bottom of the trench using a CAT 330 excavator, moisture conditioned (when necessary),
and compacted using a vibratory plate compactor. A sample was obtained of the PBM for
laboratory testing. Nuclear density testing will be performed at a later date.
PSES Weekly Report WE 10.29.2011
