November 8,2011 C-1981-016/Hawk Nest E& W JJD
ROADS—Rule 4.03 Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3) Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4) Surfacing and
Maintenance4.03.1(5) and(6)/4.03.2(5) and(6) Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
The county road that cuts through the mine site was in good condition. The slump on the north side of the
county road in the East Mine area was just starting to encroach onto the edge of the road, but the road access was
not blocked at all. The entrance to the West Mine silo area had been steepened by work earlier this year on the
county road.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15,Rule 3:
There was a moderate to good cover of vegetation at the East Mine yard area. The area was stable, with no
signs of erosional problems or slope stability issues. The same was true for the West Mine silo area The East
Mine portal area that lies north of the county road has an active slump but the other reclaimed portal areas north of
the county road have no apparent slope stability problems. The reclaimed areas north of the county road had a poor
to moderate cover of vegetation.
REVEGETATION— Rule 4.15 Vegetative Cover; Timing:
The East Mine yard area had a moderate to good vegetative cover, although thistle and knapweed plants
were seen in scattered occurrences. The East Mine reclaimed portal area had a poor cover of vegetation, probably
due in part to the steepness of the site and also due to the slump problems in that immediate area.
The vegetative cover at the West Mine portal area and at the West Mine bleeder entry area varied from fair to
moderate. At the West Mine silo area, the cover of vegetation was moderate to good.
SLIDES and DAMAGE -Rule 4.12:
The only area of slope instability was at the reclaimed East Mire portal area. The slump was just touching
the county road but was not a problem for access.
SIGNS AND MARKERS— Rule 4.02:
The three stream buffer zone signs were up at the West Mine silo area. There were no mine id s igns up
since this is a revoked site. There also were no surface disturbance zone signs up.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED-None
OTHER (SPECIFY) -None
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 3 of 4
