Welt, Kathy
Subject: E3 -30 (E3 -29) methane drainage well re- location
From: Daniel E Gray [mailto:degray @fs.fed.us]
Sent: Monday, July 11, 20112:30 PM
To: Welt, Kathy
Subject: E3 -30 (E3 -29) methane drainage well re- location
Kathy: While Mike Peacock and I were laying out the methane drainage well pads and roads for the E3 panel, we came
to the conclusion that the location for the E3 -30 (E3 -29) methane drainage well would not work from a resource protection
standpoint. According to the decision map, we would have had to lay out the pad adjacent to the Poison Gulch Rd. (Elijah
Springs Rd.) 711.2C along the Dry Fork of Minnesota Creek in a location that would not be adequate in size to support a
methane drainage well drilling operation and would be too close to the creek. I suggested to Mike that we move it slightly
to the northwest into a clearing that looked like an old exploratory drill location (but wasn't) so that there would be
adequate room for the pad and to create a buffer between the pad and the creek. Because of moving the pad to the new
location, Mountain Coal will have to build approximately 1015 feet of road and create a hardened, concrete plank crossing
across the Dry Fork of Minnesota Creek to access the new pad location. I have informed Ryan Taylor, the
Geologist/District Minerals Administrator, and Levi Broyles the District Ranger of the decision to move this pad because
of resource concerns and both agreed with the rationale. Let me know if you have any questions or if I can be of any
help.
Sincerely,
Daniel Gray (Natural Resource Specialist)
