J W. W. Wheeler and Associates, Inc.
1 Water Resources Engineers
August 6, 2001
Mr. Bryce Romig
Climax Molybdenum Company, Climax Mine
Highway 91/Fremont Pass
Climax, CO 80429
Re: #1051.18c Climax Mine
Robinson Lake Seepwater
Return System
Final Certification
Dear Bryce:
The purpose of this letter is to certify that the modifications made to the
Robinson Lake seepwater collection and return system were completed in general
conformance with the drawings and specifications. The project design was
reviewed and accepted by the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology as part of
the Environmental Protection Plan TR -07, Climax Mine Reclamation Permit Number
M -77 -493. The construction of the modifications were substantially completed in
the fall of 2000 by Schmueser and Associates. The undersigned conducted
periodic site inspections during the construction of the project and Climax personnel
performed daily inspections.
Minor adjustments were made to the design of the project as construction
progressed and site conditions dictated. These modifications are reflected on the
enclosed As- Constructed drawing set (11"x 17 "). The most significant
modifications to the project included the following:
1. Due to unstable, saturated soils located along the back side of the new
pond, the decision was made to install riprap slope protection over the entire
back side of the pond. The original design called for riprap only in the inflow
channel.
3700 South Inca Street Englewood, Colorado 80110 (303) 761 -4130 FAX (303) 761 -2802
