AmerAlia, Inc
Experimental Pilot Project
PROCESS MONITORING AND CONTAINMENT PLAN
August 23, 1999, DRAFT
1.0 Introduction
Process monitoring and containment is intended to 1) determine the chemical nature of
the process solution which could be released, leaked or spilled - above or below ground,
2) reduce the potential of such an event, 3) minimize the potential rates and volumes, 4)
provide secondary containment and 5) limit the exposure to surface waters, EPA
protected drinking water aquifers (USDW), wildlife, and topsoil.
In addition to the discussion provided here, additional process monitoring can be found in
Section 4.0 of the SURFACE AND GROUND WATER MONITORING PLAN prepared
by TRC Hydro -Geo Consultants.
2.0 Chemical Nature
Injection and recovery samples will be collected at the plant and assayed per the
procedures included in the SURFACE AND GROUND WATER MONITORING PLAN.
The monitoring plan long list assay will be performed monthly until leaching and
recovery process stability is demonstrated, and then the assay frequency will be reduced
to quarterly.
The process methane vent stream will be measured and assayed for methane and VOC's
monthly until process stability is demonstrated, and then the assay frequency will be
reduced to quarterly.
3.0 Injection/Recovery Wells
Injection and recovery for each solution mining production well will be automatically
monitored for pressure, temperature, and flow rate. The fluid pad pressure will also be
automatically monitored. Fluid pad makeup volume will be manually measured and
recorded.
RECEIVED
AUG 2 3 1999
Division of Minerals & Geology
