According to your letter, no construction activity relating to
this UIC permit took place at the Rock School [sodium minerals] Lease and no UIC activity is
intended in the future at this site. EPA further understood that Natural Soda intends to maintain
this sodium lease with the BLM and that ground water monitoring will continue on a reduced
schedule using the existing ground water monitoring wells.
Public Notice of EPA intent to terminate this permit was published in the Meeker Herald
and the Rifle Citizen Telegram notifying the public of their opportunity to comment. The public
comment period ended on April 14, 2003. No comments on the proposed termination were
received from the public or other interested parties.
Therefore, pursuant to Part III Section B.1 of the Permit and in response to your request,
the EPA hereby terminates UIC Permit No. CO30870 -00000 for Class III injection well
solution mining of nahcolite at the Rock School Lease, and for the three wells currently
authorized under this Permit: Solution Mining Well #1 (CO30870- 04626), Solution Mining Well
#2 (CO30870- 04627), and Solution Mining Well #3 (CO30870- 04628).
ant Printed on Recycled Paper
