The weather was cool and clear and the ground was dry.
AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS — Rule 5.02.4(1):
- The Coal Ridge No. I Mine's compliance records were at the Garfield County Courthouse in Glenwood Springs,
Colorado. Please see the Division's Availability of Records form at the end of this inspection report for more
details. There are four items that need attention in the compliance files.
BACKFILL and GRADING — Rule 4.14 Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original Contour
4.14.2; Highwall Elimination 4.14.1(2)(f); Steep Slopes 4.14.2, 4.27; Handling of Acid and Toxic Materials
4.143; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6:
- The regarded portal and facilities benches remain stable. There were no signs of cracking, settling or slumping
in the backfill and no erosional problems were noted at the time of the inspection.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05 Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.053; Siltation Structures 4.05.5,
4.05.6, Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water
Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Drainage — Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8;
Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
- The remaining sediment pond was dry at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well vegetated
and stable and no erosional problems were noted. Last summer there was a large amount of Russian knapweed
present in the bottom of the pond. This year there was a small amount of knapweed present. The Minrec needs
to continue to spray the pond and other areas of the site to keep the knapweed under control. There was some
erosion going into the pond from the remaining ditches. This erosion has been there for some time and does not
appear to be getting any worse.
- The remaining ditches capture water from the benches above and convey it to the remaining sediment pond. the
ditches were all well vegetated and stable at the time of the inspection.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 2 of 7
