The surface and ground water monitoring programs <br />will be submitted to the DRMS as a permit revision separate from this Amendment. (Ground <br />water monitoring has been discussed with the DRMS during site inspections and meetings with <br />the Division staff. Baseline ground water monitoring is currently underway based on these <br />discussions.) <br />(5) Drilling pits used during ... mining shall be constructed and <br />operated to minimize impacts to public health, safety, welfare and the <br />environment, including soil, waters of the State, including groundwater, and <br />wildlife: <br />No drill pits are anticipated during mining operations within the limits of the proposed permit <br />boundary. However, if such pits are required, Calais will submit a technical revision at that time, <br />prior to drilling operations. <br />3.1.7 Groundwater — Specific Requirements: <br />(1) Standards and conditions applicable to classified and unclassified <br />groundwater: <br />(a) State wide groundwater quality standards: Operations that may <br />affect groundwater quality shall comply with all state wide groundwater <br />quality standards established by the Water Quality Control Commission: <br />Calais Resources will comply with all applicable ground water standards established by the <br />Water Quality Control Commission. Appropriate water treatment is being provided at the water <br />treatment pond ( #1), sufficient to meet applicable water quality discharge standards, as specified <br />in our Colorado Pollution Discharge Elimination System permit. <br />(b) N/A — Classified Areas: <br />(c) Unclassified areas: Operations that may affect the quality of <br />groundwater which has not been classified by the WQCC shall protect the <br />existing and reasonably potential future uses of such groundwater: <br />No change from the existing permit. <br />(2) Establishing permit ... conditions, including numeric protection levels, <br />protective of unclassified groundwater uses: <br />(a) Pursuant to the procedures in Paragraph 3.1.7 (3), permit ... <br />conditions shall be established for each operation that may have a reasonable <br />potential to adversely affect the quality of a specified area that has not been <br />classified by the WQCC.
