A small BLM parcel is the site location for a mining proposal that is located adjacent to the City of <br />Fairplay. A public meeting was held in the Fairplay area on September 22, 2009 as part of the <br />analysis of the mine proposal to capture both the socio- economic concerns as well as other <br />environmental issues identified by the public. The public comment period for this scoping process <br />was held from September 22, 2009 through October 23, 2009. These are summarized in Appendix <br />1. <br />The following is a list of possible impacts the public has raised regarding the proposed project <br />(Issues warranting further analysis as part of this process will be brought forward in section 2.1.): <br />• Negative impact to property values <br />• Excessive noise from mine equipment and associated truck traffic <br />• Negative impact on water quality and localized aquifer characteristics from water <br />development, whether it involves a well or other mechanism (i.e. purchase) <br />• Injury to nearby water rights <br />• Negative impacts to air quality <br />• Dust generation <br />• Negative impacts to view shed of local community residents and businesses <br />• Soil contamination <br />• Loss of a hiking /ATV /Wildlife viewing area <br />• Loss of wildlife habitat (primarily winter elk, including a locally known elk named <br />"Tripod ") <br />• Negative impacts to traffic and access from county roads <br />1 <br />
