Memo to Wally Erickson 4 August 22, 2011 <br />Wildcat CN -01 Access Road Geotechnical Adequacy Review File No. M- 1981 -185 <br />12. The Construction Summary and Scheduling work plan does not include the removal of the <br />existing timber cribbing retaining wall, construction of the new retaining (Gabion) structures, <br />or the placement and compaction of the new out slope fill. Please include these items in the <br />work plan. <br />13. The Division suggests the Applicant maintain a consistent and generally accepted <br />nomenclature for the access road stationing (i.e. Sta. 17 +20). <br />14. The ASTM standard (D- 1557 -02) for compaction noted in the construction summary work plan <br />is not consistent with the updated ASTM standard (D- 1557 -09) reference in the rest of the <br />work plan. Please revise the reference. <br />15. In the Road Cuts, Fills, Retaining Walls and Reclamation section of the Work Plan the Applicant <br />states slopes in the terrace deposits and colluvium interval between 16 +00 and 19 +00 will be <br />flattened to 1:1 using an excavator. This statement is inconsistent with the Applicant's <br />statement in the "Purpose" section of the work plan, which states slopes will be no steeper <br />than 1.5(V) to 1(V) in the colluvium area (Question #4 above). <br />16. In the Road Cuts, Fills, Retaining Walls and Reclamation section of the Work Plan the Applicant <br />states cut slopes in the Morrison formation can be steepened to a maximum slope ranging <br />from 0.5(H):1(V) to 1:1. Please respond to Question #5 above and revise this statement <br />accordingly. <br />17. In the Construction Specifications section of the Work Plan the Applicant states the upper 30 <br />inches will be moisture conditioned and compacted to 95% RC per ASTM D1557 -09. Please <br />commit to moisture conditioning and compacting all fill material to 95 percent relative <br />compaction per ASTM D1557 -09. <br />18. In the Construction Specifications section of the Work Plan the Applicant states slopes steeper <br />than 1.5(H):1(V) will be constructed as outlined (with reinforcement) in the attached design <br />(CLC). The CLC designs indicated slopes at, not steeper than 1.5(H):1(V) will be reinforced <br />with Gabion structures. Please revised the statement to indicated slopes at or steeper than <br />1.5(H):1(V) will be constructed as outlined (with reinforcement) in the attached design. <br />19°. In the Retaining Structures section of the Work Plan the Applicant discuss three options for <br />reconstruction of the fill slope for the road. The CLC as -built drawings submitted by the <br />Applicant with the work plan do not include these options for the fill reconstruction. Please <br />explain this inconsistency and provide as -build drawings for the other two fill reconstruction <br />options. <br />
