Wildlife Information
EXHIBIT H
Wildlife resources on the proposed amendment site are rare. No prairie dog burrows seem to be
present and scats and tracks of larger animals are rarely seen. Undoubtedly, song birds, mainly
sparrows, feed on the seeds of the grasses and mice or other small rodents are probably fairly
abundant. Hawks and owls may also hunt here, but the food resources for raptors would be
much more abundant in the Rock Creek valley than would be found on these dry hillsides and
mesas.
After removal of the gravels and the creation of a basin with an outlet into the Rock Creek
valley, wildlife habitat will probably be better on the bottom of the pit where vegetation growth
may be more abundant. Thus, through removal of the gravel and the creation of better vegetation
growth conditions should result in an increase in wildlife utilization. However, water availability
will still be limiting. The Rock Creek valley will likely still be the primary wildlife habitat in the
area, although the reclamation may add slightly to the habitat value of the valley.
Fountain Pit M -1982 -155
DRMS 112 Permit Amendment Page 19
