ame
IV)VLF Geosynthetics
A) Geomembrane Installation
1) VLF
Geomembrane installation within the Phase 5 VLF resumed performing deployment, seaming,
and repair /QC activities. Geomembrane installation was performed in the area shown on
Figure 3. Approximately 296,348 square feet of 80mil LLDPE was deployed using a Komatsu
200 excavator and a John Deere 544 front -end loader with spreader -bar attachments. Subgrade
was inspected and approved by AMEC and Lonestar representatives prior to geomembrane
deployment (see Figure 3). Approximately 14,192 linear feet of seam was fusion welded using
four fusion welding machine /welding technician combinations. Twenty -nine destructive test
samples were marked during fusion seaming. Approximately 868 linear feet of seam was
extrusion welded using three extrusion welding machine /welding technician combinations. Six
destructive test samples were marked during extrusion seaming. All destructive tests performed
were within project specifications. Non - destructive testing was performed for fusion welded
seams. Repairs were performed using the extrusion welding method for all marked defects.
Vacuum testing was performed for all extrusion welded seams and repairs.
During the Cresson blast, an AMEC field representative observed the geomembrane and no
damage was noted.
B) Geomembrane Exposure
1) VLF
Exposure of previously installed geomembrane between stations H10 +00 ( + / -) and H16 +00 ( + / -)
was performed using a John Deere 35D excavator and laborers. An AMEC field representative
observed the geomembrane exposure constantly.
C) Anchor Trench
1) VLF
Anchor trench excavation continued between stations A30 +00 ( + / -) and A37 +00 ( + / -), and
between stations J14 +00 ( + / -) and J20 +00 ( + / -) using a John Deere 35D excavator and one laborer.
The anchor trench was inspected by an AMEC field representative and found to be constructed in
accordance with design drawings and project specifications.
Anchor trench backfill was performed between stations A31 +00 ( + / -) and A35 +00 ( + / -), near
centerline, between stations J14 +00 ( + / -) and J17 +00 ( + / -), near centerline, and between stations
H13 +00 ( + / -) and H16 +00 ( + / -), near centerline, using a John Deere 35D excavator, a vibratory
plate compactor and laborers. An AMEC field representative observed the backfill and it was
found to be constructed in accordance with design drawings and project specifications.
D) Geomembrane Acceptance
1) VLF
No work performed during the shift. Previous geomembrane acceptance is shown on Figure 4.
VLF Weekly Report WE 09.03.2011
