Mr. Wallace H. Erickson
Response to August 22, 2011 Cazier Memorandum
September 9, 2011
Page 6
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 7.
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 7.a.
Wildcat will delete the second bullet related to retaining wall foundation
excavations and roadway over excavation.
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 7.b.
As described in Response to Adequacy Issue No. 6, Wildcat will be testing
terrace rock density to confirm design specification for riprap. This testing will be
performed as part of Attachment D -1 (New Access Road Construction Work Plan).
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 7.c.
Wildcat will delete the fourth bullet related to fill material placement in 8 -12 inch
lifts and field density tests.
Adequacy Issue No. 8.
Page 5, Quality Assurance. There is no discussion on ensuring culverts are installed to
grade on appropriate bedding or that riprap is placed mechanically or by hand to prevent
segregation.
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 8.
As discussed supra in Response to Adequacy Issue Nos. 5 and 6, culverts will be
installed pursuant to Section 603, and riprap will be placed as provided in Section 506,
of the CDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction (2011). Riprap
will be placed using mechanical means and where possible, and or necessary, riprap will
be placed manually. Because stream velocities are high, large size riprap must be placed
mechanically. To clarify this intent, Wildcat will add the following bullet to the Quality
Assurance section on Page 5 of Attachment D -3:
• Observing culverts are installed to grade on appropriate bedding pursuant to
Section 603 of the CDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge
Construction (2011), and that riprap is placed mechanically or by hand to
prevent segregation pursuant to Section 506 of the CDOT Standard
Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction (2011).
Adequacy Issue No. 9.
Page 6, Reporting. The fifth solid bullet indicates "as- built" drawings will be prepared
in the third quarter of 2011. DRMS recommends this statement be revised such that the
DEN 97, 591, 786v1 9 -9 -11
GREENBERG TRAURIG, LLP • ATTORNEYS AT LAW • WWW.GTLAW.COM
