information was solicited from the following sources:
1. Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) - game animal and raptor distri-
bution, big game critical areas and population trends, threatened
and endangered species sightings, importance of project area to
sport hunting, etc.
2. Peabody Coal Company -- wildlife data submitted in support of mine
permits nPAr the study area.
3. Colorado State University (CSU), University of Wyoming (UW); Depart-
ments of Zoology and Wildlife Management - wildlife information for
the area gathered in, support of theses, dissertations or other
University research.
4. In -house library -- a considerable volume of both published and
unpublished ecological information for western Colorado has been
amassed as a result of our involvement in large -scale ecological
baseline studies in the area.
In addition, biologists working for state and federal agencies and
private industry in the area were interviewed to determine the avail-
ability of site-specific ecological information.
The existing, site- specific wildlife information was reviewed for its
relevance in describing baseline wildlife conditions for the project
area. • hP. pertinent wildlife data 'were utilized . to. the mthdx n m degree to
avoid duplication of effort in the present baseline pixe4am and to supple-
ment observatons and data gathered on -site during the course of field
studies. Data gathered over a period of years are particularly important
in developing predictions of population dynamics and seasonal patterns
of distribution of important biota. Such data are combined with infor-
mation gatheied during the study to provide tine mast accurate possible
description of baseline wildlife conditions for the project site.
L -4-
JUN fl a 1920
