Total plant cover on this site in 2010 averaged 95.33 percent and litter averaged
4.47 percent (Appendix Table 2.04.10A -1, 2010 Intensively Managed Irrigated Pasture - Plant
Cover.)
Perennial grasses dominated the plant cover on this site, contributing 69.67 percent of the total
cover or 73.09 percent of the total relative cover on this site. Perennial forbs contributed 22.67
percent of the total cover and contributed 23.77 percent of the total relative cover on this site.
Noxious weeds contributed 3.00 percent or 3.14 percent of the total relative cover on this site.
No annuals or biennials, were encountered in the plant cover sampling on this site (Appendix
Table 2.04.10A -1, 2010 Intensively Managed Irrigated Pasture - Plant Cover.)
Tall Fescue, an introduced planted pasture grass, was the dominant plant species growing on this
site, contributing 48.96 percent of the total relative cover on this site. Alfalfa, Orchard Grass,
Alsike Clover, and Kentucky Bluegrass were the other dominant species on this site, contributing
10.98, 9.86, 7.41 and 5.24 percent, respectively, of the total relative cover on this area
(Appendix Table 2.04.10A -1, 2010 Intensively Managed Irrigated Pasture - Plant Cover.) .
The locations of the 15 cover transects sampled on this site are shown on Appendix Map
2.04.10 -5, 2010 Intensively Managed Irrigated Pasture - Vegetation Transect Map. The sample
adequacy calculations reveal that the number of samples required to describe the parameter of
total plant cover on this site at the 90 percent confidence interval was 0.1 transects.
When this site was sampled in 2009, total plant cover on this site averaged 92.13 percent and
litter averaged 6.74 percent. Perennial grasses dominated the plant cover on this site,
contributing 56.33 percent of the total cover or 61.36 percent of the total relative cover on this
site. Perennial forbs contributed 34.33 percent of the total cover and contributed 37.27 percent
of the total relative cover on this site. Noxious weeds contributed 1.27 percent or 1.37 percent of
the total relative cover on this site. No annuals or biennials, were encountered in the plant cover
sampling on this site.
Tall Fescue, was the dominant plant species growing on this site in both 2009 and in 2010,
contributing 39.29 percent of the total relative cover on this site in 2009. Alfalfa, Orchard Grass,
Alsike Clover, and Kentucky Bluegrass were the other dominant species on this site in 2009,
contributing 21.27, 10.34, 9.48 and 6.95 percent, respectively, of the total relative cover on this
area.
Production. The results obtained from the 30 production transects sampled on this site in 2010
are presented in Appendix Table 2.04.10A -2, 2010 Intensively Managed Irrigated Pasture -
Production. The average total production on this site was determined to equal 168.32 g/1 /4m or
5,998.9 pounds of air -dry forage per acre.
Perennial grasses contributed an average of 102.33 g/1/4m or 83.91 percent of the total
herbaceous forage production. Perennial forbs, contributed an average of 27.08 g/1 /4m or
16.09 percent of the total herbaceous production (Appendix Table 2.04.10A -2, 2010 Intensively
Managed Irrigated Pasture - Production.)
