As we discussed, most of the wildlife issues we
identified earlier have been addressed. It appears as if the design of the Reed Wash rail crossing (spanning vs. piers in
the wash) is still in flux. The wash is known to be used by river otter and native Colorado River fishes. It is within
designated critical habitat for the Colorado pikeminnow and razorback sucker. Spanning would be less likely to
negatively impact fish and wildlife utilizing the wash. With spanning, impacts aquatic habitat caused by runoff could be
mitigated through implementation of industry recognized BMP's such as utilization of silt fences, berms, catch basins,
seeding, mulching, and erosion - control netting. Construction within the wash would present more challenges related to
impact mitigation. In that case, I anticipate our recommendations would be very similar to those provided earlier
related to the Redcliff Mine /Mack Wash proposal.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
