Peabod <br />August 30, 2011 <br />I/ 111 ENERGY <br />Peabody Sage Creek Mining, LLC <br />Mr. Jason Musick <br />Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining & Safety (DRMS) <br />1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 <br />Denver CO 80203 <br />Mr. Musick: <br />Peabody Sage Creek Mine <br />PO Box 250 <br />36600 Routt County Road 27 <br />Hayden, CO. 81639 <br />VteCeW <br />SEP 01 Zell <br />Division v. <br />nMg and Sat©�j <br />Re: Sage Creek Coal Company — Peabody Sage Creek Mine (Permit No. C- 2009 -087) <br />Minor Revision (MR05 -11) Septic Profile Pits, Domestic Water Test Well, Power <br />Installation and Transfer of Public Copy of Mining Permit from the Routt County Court <br />House to the Hayden Public Library <br />Peabody Sage Creek Mining (PSCM) requests CDRMS approval of a Minor Revision (MR05- <br />11) to the existing permit for the following: <br />• Excavation of profile test pits in anticipation of installing a septic system to <br />accommodate a new bath house <br />• Drilling of a test hole for a new domestic water well <br />• Power pole and line replacement /installation and installation of fiber -optic line <br />• Transfer of the public copy of the mining permit from the Routt County Assessor's <br />Office to the Hayden Public Library <br />A new bath house and septic system will need to be installed to accommodate mine employees. <br />In order to determine the type of septic system required, test pits will need to be excavated just <br />west of the existing bath house /warehouse (see Figure 1). Two pits will be excavated using a <br />backhoe to a depth of approximately 8'. Soil profiles will be recorded and the pits will be <br />immediately backfilled. <br />A new domestic water well will also be required to supply water to the new bath house and <br />existing office facilities. The new well would replace the existing well supplying water to the <br />existing facilities. PSCM proposes to drill a 775' deep test hole approximately 100' west of the <br />existing well to check for a viable source of water (Figure 2). If a viable source is not found the <br />hole will be backfilled and another nearby location will be drilled. Permitting for the new well <br />will follow successful location of a viable source of water. <br />There is an existing 4,160 V line running from the YVEA substation to the Sage Creek Office <br />facilities. The condition of the poles and associated power infrastructure is poor and unable to <br />
