The basic data has
not changed to require updating of the climatic information.
The climate of this site is considered inland continental. The site is in or adjacent to a river floodplain
and therefore is under the influence of the special characteristics of valley bottoms. These characteristics give
the site a climate that is somewhat different from the regional climate found on the higher slopes of the valley.
The Arkansas River Valley in this area is very broad and therefore microclimatic transitions tend to be vague
and best described as a low gradient continuum. The climatic differences between the bottom and the edges of
the valley are considerable.
Climatic data describing this site is excellent and readily available. The Pueblo weather station is, for
all practical purposes, adjacent to the site. However, the weather station is in a slightly more upland location
and therefore does not precisely represent the microclimate of the site itself. The differences though are
probably minor. Therefore, the data presented in the previous applications is assumed to represent the site to
within about 95% accuracy. Any modifications of that data would be linked to microclimatic differences
between the weather station and the river bottom. For purposes of reclamation planning these differences are
not significant in the long run.
1
