Box <br />Boulder, Colorado 80806 <br />Attention: lai Ed M cDowell <br />Subject: Observation /Dressing of <br />Levee at Deepe Farm Flt <br />Boulder, Colorado <br />Job Now 25,385 <br />Gentlemen: <br />M ining of the Deepe Farm Pit has been stepped and the pit is being reclaimed. <br />Part of the plan lan is the dressing of the existing levee bordering the south <br />vest s[des of the raining area. This report summarizes the results of our <br />and <br />Ober i � <br />Lon of the earthwork done to dress the levee to design slues and grades <br />( c on s truction drarwin ared Ayres Associates, Boulder, Colorado and titled <br />p rep ared I� <br />Levee Embankm Earthwork, D Pit, south Boulder Creek, Boulder, Colorado" <br />and dated October 3 1 987). <br />A s re q u ested , ted on October 6, 1997, we investigated the soils in the proposed <br />cation of the test its are on Figs.1 and and the summary logs <br />borrow area. The l � <br />are on F ig. , . We advised the contractor the soils exposed by the test pits were <br />acceptable for compacted fill to dress the Deepe Farm Pit levee. <br />The e was started October 9 1997 and was completed October 16, <br />1997 The co n tractor used 1 Caterp illar 1 sheep foot roller, 1 water truck, <br />n � <br />C aterpillar 627B s crapers and I Caterpillar 140G grader to place the compacted fill <br />required to dre ss the levee. The soils for dressing the levee were borrowed from the <br />ar eas in which the test pits (s ee Figs. I and were excavated. <br />The areas <br />to receive fill were stripped of vegetation, prepared and compacted <br />according t o specified r equirements. The levee fill soils were gravelly, clayey sands <br />p � <br />and sand, cfayey gravels with a maximum 8 - inch size. These sobs were hauled to <br />lev read in a p p roximately 8 loose lifts, mo i s ture conditioned to near or <br />the lev , �p is <br />dust over op m oisture content ( see attached Table I for compaction test resin <br />and compacted.
