A preliminary design and
layout for the holding pond is shown on Figure 2, Holding Pond #1 Layout.
RGS will utilize aeration or other similar techniques (including covering and heating the pond) to
prevent water in Holding Pond #1 from freezing. RGS will construct a pump house adjacent to
this pond that is equipped with pumps and valves so that water can be loaded into water trucks (5
- 10,000 gallon capacity) and used on the surface for dust control and/or hauled to one of RGS's
surface drilling rigs. Any excess water from Holding Pond #1 can also be loaded into water
trucks and hauled to Holding Pond #2, which will be installed in the reclaimed Homestake
tailings facility. See Figure 3, Holding Pond #2 Layout.
Holding Pond #2 is designed to contain any excess water flow from the decline that could not be
contained in Holding Pond #1 and /or re -used for dust control or drilling activities. This pond is
designed to handle approximately 21 acre -feet (6.8 million gallons) of water or 13 gpm for an
entire year and the pond surface will be lined with 80 mil HDPE. There would be no surface
discharge of water from this facility. Water would be delivered to this site and allowed to
passively evaporate. Assuming a continuous 30 gpm would be trucked to this site, a 10,000
gallon capacity water truck would make five round trips per day to deliver water to Holding
Pond #2.
Notes:
(1) Assumes no grouting at Creede - Campbell Mountain Contact
(2) Contact between 1,200 and 1,400 feet
A transfer pad will be constructed adjacent to Holding Pond #2 where water will be transferred
from the water trucks to the holding pond by 6 inch diameter HDPE pipe. Contractor shall install
pipe according to Manufacturer's recommendations.
Water Quality — Water from the decline will be sampled for water quality. A water sample was
taken on August 17 2011 from monitoring well HW -3. This well is located adjacent to the
existing Bulldog 9360 level tunnel, approximately 1,500 feet back from the portal. The ground
4
