25 -foot setback around the edges, the actual total effective area to be mined is
reduced to approximately 123.5 acres.
f) The material we are pursuing is a calcareous sand/gravel layer
approximately 20 feet thick. This material will be used to rebuild or improve
road surfaces in the southern reaches of Yuma County. In the event that the
calcareous material needs to be processed, it will be done with a portable
crusher screen plant. A vibratory packer will be used on the road surface
where and whenever possible. The material found in the walls will be mined
to a level approximately 10 feet above the drainage channel.
i. The overburden/topsoil is in a layer of
approximately 10 foot thick at the peak of the canyon and becomes
thinner on the steeper slopes. This is the calcareous loam noted in
the Natural Resources description of the site. This will be hard to
reclaim plant cover, but not impossible to do so. By following the
NRCS recommendations and working closely with the range and soil
technicians, we expect to be successful.
ii. We have not determined the nature of the material
in the bottom of the site. Observance of surrounding erosion of
other canyons, it appears to be a clay load of light reddish color.
g) Primary commodities of rock calcareous sand and gravel will be used for
road building and repair material. Secondary commodities of rocky
calcareous sandy clay will be used as fill and barrow base. There will be no
shop, plant, or other facilities permanently located at the mine site.
Equipment will be maintained at the site when mining is occurring. This will
be on a periodic basis since material will only be mined on an as need basis.
The equipment used to mine the gravel will be primarily a scraper, dozer,
front -end loader, and trucks. Fuel and equipment will be outside of the pit
area on the permitted acres. Equipment will be serviced out of the mining
area. Re- fueling of equipment will occur on site.
h) There will be no incidental products produced in this pit. All materials
will be utilized as road base and gravel.
i) No explosives will be used in our operation. A D -8 dozer with ripper
and/or excavator with a pavement breaker will reduce the rock to manageable
size.
There is also a softer calcareous rock that poses no problem in removal. A
geotechnical stability statement or exhibit will not be required.
/z
