EXHIBIT D - Mining Plan
6.4.4
a) An existing trail is included in our permit acreage. It will remain for
landowner use after reclamation. Earth moving: top soil and overburden will
be removed with a bulldozer and scraper. A bulldozer will be used to push up
mined material. A frontend loader will be utilized to load material onto
trucks.
b) The site will be mined to approximately 25 feet deep. Mining will be
done on a 2:1 slope down to the bottom of the pit area. Topsoil is shallow but
could range up to 5" in depth. Any material that has root material will be
stockpiled as topsoil. The topsoil will be stripped, stockpiled, and utilized
when the pit is reclaimed.
c) There is no surface water at the site. Stockpiled topsoil will be kept
separate from overburden stockpiles. These materials will be placed to help
shield the active mine from run -off. The stockpiled berms will act as
diversions, but will not be placed to create dams for water storage because of
the chance of failure. Stockpiles will be seeded with Crested Wheat Grass. If
any water is diverted by a berm, the water will flow across a grassed area to
help filter any silt and allow it to settle before entering the drainage of the
South Fork of the Republican River. The typically dry South Fork of the
Republican River lies to the southeast, approximately 1 '/2 miles from the
Knodel site. No mining will take place in the dry bottom of the draw. A
natural grassed water way will remain. When rainfall occurs, the pit area may
be unworkable for a few days. Since the use of the pit is intermittent, we will
be able to work around those occurrences.
d) We will limit our mining activity to 15 -acre plots. As one plot is finished
and cleaned out, we will begin to clear an adjacent area and reclamation will
be started on the previously mined area. The Knodel Pit will be an
intermittent operation, only being utilized when material is needed in that area
of the county. It will take approximately 3 months to remove the topsoil and
overburden and then begin production of useable road material. As an
intermittent operation, we will be under 70,000 Tons annual and an APEN
will not be required.
e) Removal of topsoil/overburden and mining will start in the southeast
quadrant in the area of KNO 9 and KNO 10 points on our maps of the
permitted area. The active mining time for each 15 -acre plot is expected to be
3 to 5 years. At the end of production from the first area, we will begin
stripping the next plot on the west and reclaim the first spot. This progression
will continue in a clockwise fashion for approximately 10 -15 years or until we
have exhausted our 128 acre permit. The road material will be mined at a
steeper 2:1 slope and re- sloped with the over - burden layer to a finished 3:1
slope. We will do no mining within 50 feet of the bottom drainage.
