The mine is fully reclaimed and no personnel <br />remain on the mine site. The operator has submitted a final phase III bond release application, and the <br />bond release application is still under review. During previous inspections, landowners have expressed <br />concern regarding noxious weeds on the property. <br />JHB <br />FISH and WILDLIFE — Rule 4.18: <br />Mule deer were noted in the West Pit area. A herd of approximately 15 Pronghorn antelope were grazing in the <br />upper portions of the reclaimed West pit area. <br />HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05 <br />❑Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, <br />4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring <br />4.05.13; Drainage — Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18: <br />Three ponds remain in the Edna permit; Moffat pond, West Pit pond, and Center Ridge pond. In addition, the <br />series of check dams, referred to as "string -of Pearls" in the west pit drainage, also provide sediment control. A <br />Peabody Mining representative, Mr. Jay James, requested an on- the -ground observation of the "String -of- Pearls" <br />series of check dams for potential ideas of drainage control on other properties. Mr. James Tarazoff, of Chevron <br />Mining, provided a verbal authorization, via telephone conversation on July 25th, that Chevron OK'd the state <br />inspector taking Mr. James onto the Edna site for observational purposes. <br />No problems were noted with any of the three ponds. Previously identified weeds around the Moffat Pond were <br />showing signs of chemical take -up from weed spraying efforts. <br />The string -of- pearls series of check dams were holding up well.
