1 <br />Identification <br />Identify the character, source, amount and extent of the spill or incident. <br />• DO NOT ENTER a hazardous area until hazards have been assessed <br />and controlled. <br />• STAY UPWIND /UPHILL of chemical spills or releases. <br />2 <br />Internal <br />Notification <br />Immediately notify Area Supervisor and Climax Administration <br />Dial 7568 Climax Administration <br />If by radio, call "May Day", "May Day", "May Day " <br />3 <br />Assessment <br />Identify the exact source, amount, and real extent of the incident and assess <br />the possible direct and indirect hazardous to human health or the <br />environment that may result from a release, fire, or explosion. <br />4 <br />Evacuation <br />Call for evacuation of all non - essential personnel from areas impacted or <br />having potential to be impacted by the incident. <br />5 <br />Request Help <br />and Complete <br />External <br />Notification <br />If there is imminent danger or injured personnel, the Emergency Coordinator <br />or their designee should ensure Administration has summoned the <br />appropriate internal /external emergency response services (e.g. fire, police, <br />etc.). Additionally, contact should be made with the site environmental <br />department to ensure government agency notifications are made as required. <br />6 <br />Mitigation <br />If safe to do so and individuals are properly trained: <br />• Attempt to extinguish incipient stage fires; <br />• Shut off pumps, close valves, etc. if material is still being released; <br />• Shut off motors and electrical circuits, and extinguish ignition sources in <br />the area impacted by the incident; and <br />• In case of injury, begin first aid up to the level of individual training. <br />7 <br />Containment <br />Develop a security perimeter around the area(s) impacted by the incident. For <br />spills or other releases, contain released materials with absorbents, booms, <br />drain covers, or earthen material, if safe to do so. <br />8 <br />Cleanup and <br />outside <br />assistance <br />Characterize and provide for disposal of all wastes resulting from the incident. <br />The phone numbers of outside resources, which may be needed to assist in <br />cleaning up significant incidences, are provided above. <br />9 <br />Follow -up <br />Ensure all emergency equipment is returned to service; make necessary <br />notifications prior to restarting operations, review the incident and determine <br />root causes; provide written follow -up to agencies, if necessary. <br />• <br />• <br />Designated Chemicals Emergency Response Plan <br />Table T -A -2 Emergency Response Procedures summarizes the procedures that are followed in response <br />to an injury, fire, explosion, spill or other environmental release. <br />Table T -A -2: Emergency Response Procedures <br />Climax Molybdenum Company <br />Permit 1977 -493 <br />EPP — Appendix A <br />July 2011 <br />T -A -3 <br />
