• <br />• <br />Technical Revision (TR -18) Climax Molybdenum Company <br />Environmental Protection Plan Permit No. M- 1977 -493 <br />Appendix T -B. <br />T -3.2 Designated Chem/cats information <br />T -3.2.1 Collector <br />A collector reagent 'collects' the molybdenum in a froth flotation extraction process allowing the <br />molybdenum to float to the surface of the float cells. Nalco TX 15256 (or equivalent) will be used as a <br />collector /cleaner (regrind) reagent in the milling process. Nalco TX 15256 is a combustible petroleum <br />distillate. Aside from being combustible, this product is a skin and eye irritant. <br />In the environment, the collector reacts similar to other petroleum distillates and can cause short -term <br />damage to terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Spills should be contained with inert absorbents, and <br />contaminated soils should be removed. <br />Current metallurgical testing is being conducted at 0.10 to 0.20 Ib of collector per ton of ore processed. <br />The collector will be stored in one tank with a capacity of 13,500 gallons. The collector will be stored in <br />the reagent storage area of the mill building (see Mill Building Detail - Area 450 on the south side of the <br />mill building on Figure AM- 06- T -06). Secondary containment with a volume greater than that of the tank <br />will be provided in the reagent storage area (see Reagent Storage Area Detail Figure AM- 06- T -07). Tank <br />level indication will be available locally as well as through the control system. The control system will <br />alarm for a given tank low and high level. A local alarm horn will sound for a given tank high level. <br />In the event of a storage tank failure, the collector will be contained in the reagent storage area via <br />secondary containment. The secondary containment area is equipped with a sump but no sump pump. <br />In the event of a release in this area, a pump will be placed in the secondary containment sump and the <br />collector will be routed back into the process circuit or pumped into a suitable container for proper <br />disposal through direction from the environmental department. A spill that occurs during offloading into <br />the storage tank will be handled similarly using a sump located in the offloading area. <br />In the event of a collector distribution system failure, the collector will be contained within the mill building <br />and will be sent to tailings or the rougher concentrate thickener depending on where the failure occurs. <br />T - 3.2.2 Frother <br />A frother reagent creates froth in the agitated reagent bath and assists in holding the froth intact at the <br />surface of the float cell. Nalco 9741(or equivalent) will be utilized in the mill circuit as a flotation frother. <br />Nalco 9741 contains aliphatic alcohol. Nalco 9741 is combustible. Primary exposure pathways include <br />eye contact, skin contact and inhalation. <br />In the environment, Nalco 9741 will distribute to air, water and soil /sediment in the approximate <br />respective percentages; <5 %, 10 -30% and 50 -70 %. Spills should be contained with inert absorbents, and <br />contaminated soils removed. <br />Current metallurgical testing is being conducted at 0.040 to 0.060 Ib of frother per ton of ore processed. <br />The frother will be stored in one tank with a capacity of 9,300 gallons. The frother will be stored in the <br />reagent storage area of the mill building (see Mill Building Detail - Area 450 on the south side of the mill <br />building on Figure AM- 06- T -06). Secondary containment with a volume greater than that of the tank will <br />be provided in the reagent storage area (see Reagent Storage Area Detail Figure AM- 06- T -07). Tank <br />level indication will be available locally as well as through the control system. The control system will <br />alarm for a given tank low and high level.
