The same applied to the West Mine backfilled slopes as well. Collection ditches were in place at the East Mine. However, some of the riprap that had been washed out of the collection ditch a while ago on the west side of the backfilled portal area at the East Mine still needs to be put back.The operator is working with a contractor to do the work in August. The sediment ponds at the West Mine, East Mine West Ridge waste pile and at the partially reclaimed highway coal stockpile area were dry. The embankments of the ponds had a moderate to good vegetative cover. Spillways were functional.
