Discharge from Outfall 001A
Analyte
2010 Avg
2000 -2005 Avg
Flow (gpm)
26.7
22.3
pH
8
7.93
Conductivity
2027
1926
TDS (mg/1)
1419
1360
Iron (mg/1)
0.03
0.055
Minrec has also provided upstream and downstream water quality data for the North
Thompson Creek. The data shows slight decreases in the downstream concentrations of
TDS, As, Cu, Fe and Zn and a slight increase in the downstream concentration of B. The
probable hydrologic consequences for the discharge predicted a very slight impact on the
North Thompson Creek due to an increase in TDS of approximately 3 %. Based on the
data presented in the 2010 Annual Hydrology Report and the fact that the discharge from
outfall 001A is now directed into the refuse pile sediment pond and sediment pond P -9,
the Division agrees that there will be minimal impacts to the North Thompson Creek.
Based on the Division's review of the 2010 Annual Hydrology Report for the North
Thompson Creek Mines the Division has the following question.
1. Since May 2010 the discharge from Treatment Pond T -2 has been rerouted from
outfall 001A (into the North Thompson Creek) and into sediment pond P -9 and
the refuse pile pond. This rerouting of water is approved as part of the developed
water resource approved for the North Thompson Creek Mines. To date, based
on the Division's quarterly site inspections, the water levels in the ponds has been
well below the pond spillways. There is, however, a possibility that the ponds
will fill with water and discharge. A discharge from either of these ponds would
be from a non - approved location. Please describe how Minrec monitors the
water flowing into sediment pond P -9 and the refuse pile pond and what
measures will be taken if the water level in these ponds approaches the pond
spillways.
This concludes the Division's review of the 2010 Annual Hydrology Report for the North
Thompson Creek Mines. Please contact me at (303) 866 -3567 X8145 if you have any
questions.
Sincerely,
James R Star
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Sandy Brown
