(Colowyo); Spill No. 2011 -0460
Dear Mr. Peterson,
This letter is a follow up on a phone conversation reporting a spill to the Colorado
Department of Public Health and Environment on July 12, 2011, at approximately 13:27
P.M.. by Mr. Tony Tennyson for the initial reporting of a spill that occurred on July 11,
2011, at approximately 1:30 P.M.
Colowyo Coal Company experienced a spill of approximately 80 gallons of hydraulic oil
in the West Pit. This spill occurred as 126 loader was loading material and a hydraulic
hose suffered a rupture. The machine stopped where it was working and the area was
immediately bermed off. Colowyo maintenance department repaired the hydraulic line
where the machine broke down, and after repair to the 126 loader, it was removed from
the spill location. Subsequent to the loader removal two scarper loads of dirt were
removed from the area and hauled it to our in -pit treatment location. The spill was
completely isolated due to the location in the pit; nonetheless the spill did not enter any
state waterways.
If you should have any additional questions please feel free to contact me at your
convenience at (970) 824 -1532.
Sincerely,
Environmental Engineer
Cc: C.F. 19.3
RECEIVED
JUL 14 2
Colo.
