Exhibit H — Wildlife Information
Paul Banks and Associates, LLC
Discussions with the landowner, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and review of a Division
of Wildlife referral on an adjacent property indicate that no threatened or endangered
species are likely to be found on this property.
The property includes river corridor riparian habitat that is being protected by a 300 foot
buffer zone from the north bank of the Arkansas River. Wildlife typically found along the
river include deer, waterfowl, turkey and various small mammals.
The proposed reclamation plan, including the reservoir with reclaimed vegetated banks
and surrounding vegetated open space, will be beneficial to many wildlife populations.
The CDOW provided the following comments and suggestions to the Pueblo County
Planning Department, in response to a referral for the Special Use Permit application
and based upon submitted materials and a site visit conducted on March 2, 2004:
• A buffer zone setback should be established between the area being actively
mined and the riparian zone adjacent to the Arkansas River.
• Native vegetation located on the subject property should be disturbed as little as
possible to lessen any negative impacts to wildlife.
• Control and /or removal of non - native vegetation, such as tamarisk, is highly
recommended.
• The CDOW and NRCS should be consulted before reclamation activities occur to
ensure benefits to wildlife.
St. Barbara Sand and Gravel Mine
Pete Lien & Sons, Inc.
21
10031
June 15, 2011
