bottom fo the pit to construct 3H:1 V slopes. If the pit is mined to 45 feet, and no deeper,
where is the material coming from to push up the slope for reclamation?
Operations will be restrained from exceeding the 45 foot depth to provide for adequate
use of the bottom materials to establish finished slopes; in the absence of any data and
subsequent depths supported by the data that would provide for deeper extraction
depths beyond the 45 foot limit established respective of finished slopes and respective
assurances of the supporting data by the OMLR via an approved Technical Revision.
Item 2(b) — The response stated `The values used were either reported by Terracon or
in the absence of measured values we used table values provided by your agency.'
There appear to be some discrepancies between this statement and what was used in
the STABL for Windows model as shown in your `Soils Properties' screen capture in
Attachment A of the response letter. The attached Table 1 provides a summary of the
various parameters used in the model; reported by Terracon; and those recommended
by DRMS. Please update the analyses with unit weight, cohesion, and friction angle
values for each of the five soil layers recommended by DRMS in the attached Table 1,
or provide some rationale as to why other values should be used, specifically for the
parameters for which Terracon provided measured values and values recommended by
DRMS /DMG in the response reference..
Please refer to attached correspondence from C.G.R.S. of 28 June 2011.
Additional Comments: Item 6 — The DRMS engineering staff uses the Galena Slope
Stability Analysis software (Version 5.02) to analyze slope stability. The staff used the
Varra Companies, Inc. correspondence of 29 June 2011 to the Colorado Office of Mined Land Reclamation 3
(OMLR) in reply to OMLR correspondence of 21 June 2011 — Western Sugar Reclamation Land Development
Project — M- 2010 -049.
