of centerline. Slope contouring was performed using various CAT dozers and various CAT
excavators. Material generated as the cut progressed was pushed down the slope.
D) Overburden to Stockpile
1) VLF
Oversize rock within the Phase 5 VLF fill area was removed from fill areas and hauled to the
overburden stockpile area east of the east perimeter road near stations A28 +00 ( + / -) to A36 +00
( +/ -).
E) Cut to Fill
1) VLF
A CAT 385 excavator was used to excavate structural fill material from the following areas:
between stations E0 +00 ( + / -) and E3 +00 ( + / -), approximately 100 to 175 feet left of centerline;
between stations G4 +00 ( + / -) and G9 +00( + / -), approximately 0 to 175 feet left of centerline;
between stations G11 +00 ( + / -) and G14 +00 ( + / -), approximately 160 to 200 feet left of
centerline; and between stations H6 +00 ( + / -) and H13 +00 ( + / -), approximately 0 to 100 feet
left of centerline. The structural fill material was loaded into CAT 777 haul trucks and hauled
to fill areas.
Prior to structural fill placement existing fill areas were ripped and frost was allowed to thaw
or was removed (when necessary). Existing fill temperature were monitored and found to be
above 32 °F before fill placement. An AMEC representative monitored ambient temperatures
on an hourly basis during fill placement. Fill placement was not performed during ambient
temperatures below 32 °F.
Structural fill was placed between stations B0 +00 ( + / -) and B8 +00 ( + / -), approximately 10 to
400 feet right of centerline and between stations C0 +00 ( + / -) and C7 +00 ( + / -), approximately
75 feet left of centerline to 75 feet right of centerline. Structural fill was placed in 18" to 24"
lifts using various CAT dozers. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a CAT 773 water
truck (when necessary) and compacted using a 10 -ton vibratory smooth drum compactor,
passing over the entire fill surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is
applicable).
Blast pattern drilling was performed between stations H6 +00 ( + / -) and H7 +00 ( + / -),
approximately 50 to 100 feet left of centerline and between stations E 17 +50 ( + / -) and E20 +00
( + / -), approximately 50 to 125 feet left of centerline. Blasting was performed on Wednesday
(4/28/2010), Thursday (4/29/2010), and Friday (4/30/2010). No blasting was performed
Monday (4/26/2010), Tuesday (4/27/2010) and Saturday (5/1/2010).
F) Material Processing
1) East Cresson Clay Borrow Area
Processing of Soil Liner Fill material continued this week. A CAT D -8 dozer, a CAT 320
excavator, a CAT 966 front -end loader, and tandem -axel haul trucks were used to excavate, haul,
and process the material.
